Off-Road Adventure to Flagstaff Lava Tube

We turned a traffic jam into an adventure. Using ONX we routed around a 45–60 minute delay and hit the forest roads to the Flagstaff Lava Tubes. Three generations—my mom, my brother, and five kids (ages 2–12)—explored the ancient lava cave and soaked up the high-country pines. This one’s part off-roading, part family hike, and 100% Arizona fun.  If you’re planning a trip with kids, I share tips on gear, safety, and what to expect underground (it’s chilly, dark, and awesome). Come ride along, see the route that saved our day, and grab ideas for your own family-friendly off-road outing.

Off-Road Fun at Sand Hollow State Park

Join us for a wild off-road ride through the stunning red rocks and sand dunes of Sand Hollow State Park, Utah! 🚙💨 We teamed up with Ben and Dakota for an action-packed day of trails, climbs, and unforgettable views. From rocky crawls to sandy speed runs, this trip had it all.

Journey to Flagstaff Part 2 - Off-Roading Adventure Bloody Basin to Squaw Peak Road

In Part 2 of our off-road adventure, we set out from Bloody Basin Road near Agua Fria National Monument with the goal of reaching Flagstaff, AZ—but as daylight ran short and the trails got tougher, we rerouted and wrapped up the journey near Reimer Road and Squaw Peak Road. 🌄  Along the way, we crossed multiple gates, tackled three water crossings, and powered through rugged desert terrain. Our crew included a 2010 Toyota Tundra, a 1999 Toyota 4Runner, and a small ATV confidently led by our young trailblazers—Ben, Emily, Dakota, and Ryker.  Despite not reaching Flagstaff, the detour didn’t disappoint—this ride had everything: deep ruts, hidden creek crossings, epic desert views, and a whole lot of dust and memories.

I got Stuck near Brian Head Utah

While exploring the Second Left Hand Trail near Brian Head Resort in Parowan, Utah, an unexpected adventure unfolded as we found ourselves stuck on the rugged path. Located on the scenic Markagunt Plateau, this trail is known for its stunning views and challenging terrain, but it can quickly turn into a difficult experience for those unprepared. As we navigated the trail's twists and turns, our vehicle became bogged down in a particularly tricky section, surrounded by dense trees and uneven ground.  Despite our best efforts to get back on track, the trail proved more difficult than anticipated. The altitude and remote location made it even more challenging to call for help. With limited cell service and the clock ticking, we had to use all our problem-solving skills and teamwork to free ourselves from the situation.  This experience serves as a reminder of how important it is to be prepared when venturing into the wild.
